Joburg Market is looking for a Fixed Assets Clerk to coordinate the control and movement of assets and/or equipment, supplies, and/or materials according to established policies and procedures.

Salary: R14 723 per month, basic plus benefits

ABOUT US

About 1–million tons of fresh produce are traded via the Market every year. With this vast amount of produce going through the Market, it is imperative that attention be paid to the quality of this important commodity.  

The Joburg Market policy with regard to food hygiene is that fresh produce must be handled and treated under hygienic, safe, and traceable conditions throughout the supply chain. The Market has taken up the challenge to be up to speed with the latest developments regarding food hygiene and has resurfaced the floor in the trading halls to improve food safety and the levels of hygiene at the Market. 

The new resurfaced floors have proper drainage to allow for deep cleansing with a ride-on scrubbing machine to attain high levels of food safety.  

The Market has also acquired the Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) certification of the banana ripening facility and in the process became the first fresh produce market on the African continent to have a banana facility that adheres to food safety management system of international standards. 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Receiving and registering new assets, Verify WIP movement, Conduct asset tagging for new assets and
replacement tagging:

  • Conduct asset verification process, Identify and assess assets for impairment and
    scrapping during the asset verification process.
  • Assist in maintaining a fixed assets register on JDE a system including additions, disposals, transfer of assets, depreciation, and scrapping of assets.
  • Verify that all assets moved have been moved to their intended locations as per asset movement forms.
  • Render logistic and control support whenever office furniture is moved to different locations, maintain documents required for CAPEX claim submission to the city and record of all invoices relating to fixed assets additions.
  • File documents and maintain files in a prescribed manner, loading of customer banking
    details, Perform routine administrative duties, including data entry, run depreciation for all asset classes.
  • Assist with compiling asset reconciliations and responding to internal and external audits of fixed assets.
  • Assist with performing miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
• Diploma in Financial related field/ NQF level 6
• Up to 2 years relevant experience or more

The Market serves about 5 000 farmers from across South Africa who send their fresh produce to be traded to a large buyer base, averaging about 10 000 daily.

Trade takes place via a commission system with the Market charging the producer a mere 5% commission on all sales made on the commission floor. A further negotiable levy of 7,5% is paid to Market Agents for selling products on behalf of the farmer.

Trade takes place in three (3) Food hubs, namely: Fruit Hub, Potato & Onion Hub, and Vegetable Hub measuring a total of 65 000m2.

This remarkable market is easily accessible from the main freeways and is located just 5km south of Johannesburg´s central business district.

As value-adding services, the Market has 55 cold rooms which can accommodate 4 561 pallets of fresh produce and 50 banana ripening rooms that can handle 1 590 pallets of bananas at any one time.

On some Public Holidays, the Joburg Market may be opened, but announcements will be made in response to each holiday respectively.
